Sylvicta is manufactured by Arjowiggins, a global leader in natural translucent papers positioned at the forefront of a new era in paper manufacturing where sustainability is paramount.
Arjowiggins pioneered translucent paper manufacture in their mill in Kent, United Kingdom, where they first made paper in 1730.
Today we combine the time-honoured methods of over 250 years with modern processing technology in our mill in Quzhou, China. Derived from the Latin name for Forest, Sylva and the word Invicta, the historic emblem of the county of Kent, Sylvicta means the ‘forest that conquers’.
Convention says that food packaging should be functional and disposable. Sadly, the legacy of that conventional packaging will be around for thousands of years with the proliferation of single use plastic packaging. The plastic in our oceans bears a tragic testament to that legacy.
We set out to challenge convention for the good of the planet. Our R&D teams were given a unique challenge: to create a food-contact paper with high-barrier properties which challenged the ethos of conventional packaging.
The result is Sylvicta. A fully recyclable, compostable, and marine-degradable paper produced using only renewable raw materials. It is clean, naturally translucent, totally sustainable and can increase the shelf-life of the packaged product by offering the perfect barrier to oxygen, aroma and grease. It is approved for direct contact with food and has an aesthetic appeal.

Our translucent papers are manufactured in our Quzhou mill in Zhejiang province, China, which was founded in 2003 and has been wholly owned by Arjowiggins since 2007.

The mill places a high focus on Health & Safety and has been repeatedly recognized as a best in class industrial site for Health & Safety by the regional authorities.
